Marketing Officer

Ref – (phone number removed) Marketing Officer Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire 20 hours per week ideally over 4 or 5 days they can be flexible to suit individual needs Monday to Friday (initially a 6 month contract with the possibility of extending both the contract and the working hours). Occasional remote work would be permitted, subject to Manager’s approval and operational requirements. £28,000 per annum (full time equivalent) Fresh Start Recruitment are proud to be working with Sherwood Observatory to recruit a Marketing Officer for their state of the art planetarium in Nottinghamshire. With their ever-growing organisation, they are looking for someone with excitement, initiative and a marketing background. Duties for Marketing Officer are: * Updating the Sherwood Observatory promotional plan to ensure that the organisation’s priorities are reflected at all times. * Guardian of the Sherwood Observatory brand guidelines ensuring that all usage is in line with requirements. * Liaison with strategic and tactical partners to promote Sherwood Observatory cost effectively, such as Ashfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and others. * Liaison with external partners such as creative agencies, videographers etc to ensure timely and high quality output is provided at all times. * Manage marketing costs to a limited budget, keeping accurate records, and notifying the Centre Manager of any costs. * Evaluation of marketing activities, and making recommendations for future improvements. * Delivery of marketing communications * Planning and delivery of promotional activity including customer newsletters, promotional materials and advertising as per the marketing plan. * Responsible for creating, curating and publishing online content to social media platforms. * Maintaining the website, such as adding/removing shows/events, adding new reviews and refreshing the images, ensuring it is up to date at all times. * Supporting the team in developing responses to Google and Tripadvisor reviews in line with the venue’s policy. * Tactical delivery including promotional copywriting, selection of photography, creation of graphics using Canva, proof reading, scheduling social media updates, creating newsletters using Mailchimp, and issuing press releases. * Responding to press enquiries, providing information as required. * Careful handling of enquirer and visitor data in line with GDPR and other relevant legislation. * Any other duties reasonably expected of the role. Personal Attributes: * Previous experience in a marketing communications role * Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a good command of written and spoken English * Experience of working in a customer services or customer-facing role * Exceptional standard of written English, i.e. writing accurate and engaging promotional copy for a variety of audiences * Good knowledge of Google Suite / MS Word, Excel, Outlook * High level of organisational skills, ability to multitask and prioritise own workload * Enthusiasm for promoting STEM education * Understanding of basic budgets and costings and sound mathematical skills * An aptitude for learning and using new systems - eg Wordpress for website updates, Mailchimp for email marketing, our ticketing system, Canva for design etc * Good attention to detail * Knowledge of social media marketing, email marketing and Search Engine Optimisation. * Ability to take promotional photography and/or video * Awareness of the Data Protection Act, respecting all confidentialities and applying it in practice * Awareness of accessibility issues and relevant legislation This is a one-off opportunity to join a well-established and reputable charity who are continually looking for improvements, to create a better more efficient planetarium.
