Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a detail-focused and proactive Assistant Accountant to support our finance team. This role offers exposure to a variety of financial processes, providing key insights that drive business decisions while ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and review financial reports for multiple business units, ensuring accuracy and clear presentation for stakeholders.
Monitor operational costs and workforce expenses, working closely with internal teams to track and explain variances.
Conduct bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies.
Manage VAT calculations and returns, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register, overseeing depreciation calculations.
Reconcile intercompany balances, ensuring accurate reporting across group entities.
Assist with the preparation and submission of financial declarations to external partners.
Provide payroll cover during absences, supporting both weekly and monthly payroll cycles.
Support senior management with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
Assist with audit preparations, ensuring all necessary documentation is in order.
Step in to support other areas of the finance function, such as Accounts Payable and Receivable, when required.

What We're Looking For:

AAT Part/Fully Qualified (or equivalent experience).
Background in a finance or accounting role with experience in financial reporting.
Strong understanding of core accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, and double-entry bookkeeping.
Familiarity with key financial statements and their business impact.
Confident using Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, IF statements).
Experience working with finance software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or similar.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
