Trainee Finance Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Finance Assistant to join a growing business in Birmingham City Centre. This is a fantastic chance for someone with around six months of finance experience (or relevant volunteering experience) to take their first big step into a finance career. The company is particularly keen to support someone at the start of their AAT studies, offering full funding for the qualification while working.

Working as part of the Sales Ledger team, you will gain hands-on experience in raising and reconciling invoices from a variety of sources, ensuring accuracy and preventing duplication. You'll also have the opportunity to assist the wider finance team, with the scope to expand your role as you develop. The business is eager to invest time in training and developing someone who wants to grow within a supportive finance team.

This is a temporary-to-permanent position, with the temporary period acting as the probationary phase before moving into a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Raise and create invoices from multiple sources, including internal teams, portals, and customer requests.
  • Reconcile invoices to ensure accuracy and prevent duplicate entries.
  • Support the Sales Ledger team with general finance administration.
  • Assist with customer account updates, including changes to credit limits and address details.
  • Provide support to the wider finance team as needed, with the potential to expand responsibilities over time.
  • Learn and develop finance skills in a hands-on role, with full study support for AAT.

Candidate Attributes and Skills:

  • Some finance experience (around six months) or volunteering experience involving finance tasks.
  • Ideally started AAT studies (or keen to start), but not too far into the qualification.
  • A strong interest in developing a finance career within a supportive team.
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset, keen to take on new challenges.
  • Ideally immediately available or on a short notice period.

Benefits:

  • AAT study support - full funding for the qualification.
  • Hybrid working (Birmingham City Centre office).
  • Supportive team environment with hands-on training.
  • Opportunity to expand the role and take on more responsibility over time.
