ROSL Editor
Hours: Part-Time (3 days per week)
Contract: Permanent
Reports to: ROSL Director of Rooms & Membership
About the role
An exciting opportunity to join the team at the Royal Over-Seas League, an international not-for-profit non-partisan members' organisation based in St James's, London. The role focuses mainly on editing ROSL's quarterly Overseas Magazine, which was established by ROSL's founder Sir Evelyn Wrench (who was also owner and editor of the Spectator Magazine), in 1915 and is a primary means of communication to members.
The magazine provides informative articles about world issues, club news and details about our latest events. Focusing on a variety of international subjects and issues, Overseas features insightful editorial highlighting ROSL's links with Commonwealth and the world at large. Taking a thematic approach, each edition delves into the topics that matter most to members; recent issues have covered food and drink, philanthropy, language, film, memory, the arts, the Commonwealth, and the environment, among others.
We also feature updates on ROSL's food and beverage offering, including some of our chef collaborations and upcoming menus, in addition to arts projects and recommendations for things to see and do in the UK, as well as news and events from ROSL London and our branches around the world. In particular we have featured interviews with CEOs of leading institutions in London such as the Royal Albert Hall, London Library and Globe Theatre.
Published quarterly in March, June, September and December, the magazine is posted to each of our members and is available from Over-Seas House.
Additionally, the role involves working collaboratively with the Marketing Executive to send our email newsletters detailing upcoming events at ROSL.
About Royal Over-Seas League
The Royal Over-Seas League is dedicated to championing international friendship and understanding throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. A not-for-profit private members' club, we've been bringing like-minded people together since our launch in 1910.
Today, we offer our members a warm welcome centred on our beautiful clubhouse in central London, and the chance to get involved in all kinds of social and cultural activities around the world. ROSL is a self-funded organisation of which HM The King is Patron, and which operates under a Royal Charter with the aim of promoting international friendship.
ROSL's renowned arts programme has worked for nearly 70 years to support the careers of emerging talent in the fields of music, visual arts and literature, and the programme continues to grow. We run competitions, scholarships, residencies and concerts and events at our headquarters in London and around the world.
More recently we introduced a public affairs series, now in its fifth year, which hosts prominent political and diplomatic speakers on a range of geopolitical issues.
ROSL has also transformed its food and beverage offering to members in the last few years, and this now includes wine evenings, chef collaborations and al fresco dining in the summer months.
