The Role

We re supporting a nuclear and defence client in seeking a Waste Officer to manage and oversee radioactive, hazardous, and controlled waste disposal . This role ensures compliance with Environmental Permits, nuclear regulations, and industry best practices , driving safe and efficient waste processes.

• Oversee waste management activities, ensuring compliance with nuclear and defence regulations .
• Develop and implement waste handling, storage, and disposal strategies.
• Ensure adherence to environmental and safety legislation.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Conduct audits and inspections to monitor waste management practices.
• Liaise with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and site teams to ensure smooth operations.

• Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
• Proven experience in waste management within nuclear and/or defence environments.
• Strong knowledge of radioactive waste classification, sentencing, and disposal regulations (LLW, ILW, VLLW, etc.).
• Familiarity with NDA, ONR, EA, SEPA, and DEFRA regulatory requirements
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and hazardous waste handling .
• Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external regulators .
