Learning Support Mentor


Are you passionate about supporting children with Learning Disabilities and SEND ? Do you have experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant or working with young people with additional needs ?

We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Mentors to join special education schools across Stockport and Tameside . This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by providing the guidance and support they need to thrive.

Role Overview:

Under the direction of senior leaders, teachers, and support staff , you will assist in the care, welfare, and learning of pupils within the school. You will work both in the classroom and in small group or 1:1 settings , helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities: Supporting Pupils:

Provide 1:1 or group support to ensure pupils safety, engagement, and progress
Assist with learning activities and pre-planned education programmes
Encourage independence, self-esteem, and resilience in pupils
Promote inclusion and acceptance of all young people
Offer feedback on progress, achievements, and areas for improvement
Support learning strategies in literacy, numeracy, and ICT

Supporting Teachers:

Monitor individual pupil needs and report to teachers
Assist in the planning and delivery of lessons
Maintain a supportive and structured learning environment
Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning
Provide regular feedback on pupil progress

Supporting the School:

Attend staff meetings and training sessions
Assist with school activities, trips, and events
Help supervise pupils during break times and lunch
Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies

What We re Looking For:

Experience working with children with Learning Disabilities, Autism, or SEND
Background as a SEND Teaching Assistant or similar role (preferred)
A patient, nurturing, and encouraging approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
