LSA - Social, Emotional, Mental Health

Role Overview:
As an LSA, you will play a key role in supporting the learning and well-being of students with SEMH needs. You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and the wider school community to create a positive and inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with young people, enjoys a dynamic environment, and is committed to making a real difference in the lives of students with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual and group support to students with SEMH needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist in the delivery of tailored interventions and learning plans, ensuring students are engaged and supported throughout their learning.
• Help to manage classroom behaviour, promoting positive behaviour strategies and providing emotional support where needed.
• Work collaboratively with teachers to create a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
• Encourage the development of social and emotional skills, supporting students in developing positive relationships and coping strategies.
• Assist with personal care tasks, where appropriate, ensuring students are comfortable and able to participate fully in school life.
• Monitor student progress and contribute to feedback and reports, providing insights into students' emotional and academic development.
• Support students during breaks, lunchtime, and extracurricular activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
• Engage with other professionals, including SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a holistic approach to student support.

Key Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations and provide positive reinforcement.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of staff, students, and external professionals.
• A passion for helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning and develop their full potential.
• Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt to a challenging and dynamic environment.
• A willingness to undergo further training and development in areas such as safeguarding, behaviour management, and SEMH-related support.
• Any relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
