Senior Quantity Surveyor


Carmcichael UK are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join us at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth where we are the preferred contractor to carry out heavy civil engineering construction.

Due to the site being a high Security Military Naval base, additional security checks will need to be made BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take 4 weeks - and sometimes more.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Management of a GBP40m package of works on a Nuclear licensed site including the management of a team of junior QS mentoring and nurturing their development to assist with the following tasks where applicable.
  • Provide commercial input including financial and contractual performance forecasts to the management team. Help ensure that business targets and KPI s are met / exceeded.
  • Ensure cash flow is maximised including ensuring payments are made and received on time.
  • Preparation and review of monthly cost reports for area, together with review of results and consideration of trends with other contract team members
  • Forecasting and monitoring spend against approved Client budgets.
  • Physical measurement of works and agreement of same with client and subcontractors.
  • Agreement of certification and payment of subcontractor accounts - monitoring of such accounts against forecasts
  • Implementation and compliance with the contract change control procedure and monitoring thereof including communications to client as appropriate.
  • Managing sub-contractors including sending out enquiries, collating prices, comparing with tender, negotiation, order placement, agreement of account and payment
  • To assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks and implement Kier Group's policies for risk management.
  • Client facing role so good communication skills are essential.

Who are we looking for?

  • Fully converse and experience of NEC Contracts
  • Experience with the use of CEMAR desired but not essential
  • Experience working with Coins / Causeway accounting systems.
  • Team player and working with a highly skilled diverse team.
  • Holder of a Full UK Drivers Licence
  • Educated to Degree level, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within a similar role
  • Confident IT skills, proficient in the use of MS Office in particular Excel
  • Excellent Communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Must be an excellent organiser with proven time management skills.
  • Professional Accreditation desired eg. RICS, ICE etc.
