My client is seeking an experienced and skilled Electrical Technician to provide a business-critical response service across their estate. The role involves executing routine, planned, and reactive maintenance duties; carrying out diagnostics and repairs to a variety of electrical and mechanical systems; and performing minor installations for all electrical building services. The technician will ensure all statutory, planned, and reactive work is delivered safely, cost-effectively, and to agreed KPIs and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities

Technical Duties

Respond to job requests via the notification system, ensuring each is resolved safely, efficiently, and to a high standard within SLA targets.

Handle emergency situations involving:

  • Power supplies
  • Emergency lighting systems
  • General and controlled lighting systems
  • Alarm systems
  • Motors
  • BMS controls
  • Portable appliances
  • Provide planned maintenance and carry out reactive remedial work, ensuring compliance with all statutory testing including:
    • Periodic Inspection and Testing
    • Emergency Lighting Testing
    • Fire Alarm Testing
    • Portable Appliance Testing
    • Defect Repairs

Diagnose faults, assess job feasibility, and liaise with the Electrical Supervisor when necessary.

Investigate unidentified problems, determining if specialist input is required.

Contribute advice on new installations, assist in project planning and participate in new works and refurbishment projects.

Lead small-scale installations for power systems within the Electrical Services team.

Health & Safety and Compliance

Assess risks and develop/adhere to risk assessments and method statements.

Participate in departmental hazard identification and risk assessment processes.

Ensure all compliance-related tasks are executed and accurately recorded.

Interpret and work with record drawings, including those indicating asbestos and fire safety systems.

Organisational Responsibilities

Prioritise tasks by urgency, location, and potential impact on facility usage.

Arrange access when necessary, including coordination with security.

Maintain thorough documentation including resolutions, timesheets, and service records.

Use internal systems to calculate and request the required materials for each job.

Financial Duties

Provide cost estimates for minor works and contracted services.

Arrange and manage small works projects, ensuring budgetary, compliance, and performance requirements are met.

Advise budget holders on product specifications and costings for tools, equipment, and consumables.

Communication and Customer Service

Liaise proactively with Electrical Supervisors, colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders across departments to minimise disruption during maintenance.

Offer expert technical advice to ensure delivery of safe, effective services.

Communicate clearly and professionally with a diverse customer base.

General

Operate company vehicles to transport staff, tools, and materials across the estate.

Ensure all completed work is of high quality and areas are clean upon completion.

Undertake any other duties reasonably required, aligned with the level of the role.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience in electrical building services (commercial, industrial, or domestic).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations or Maintenance; City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2, 2330 (Levels 2 & 3), 18th Edition (BS7671), and 2395 (Inspection & Testing).
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) with strong Health & Safety knowledge.
  • Proven ability to carry out installation, maintenance, and electrical testing per BS7671 and the Electricity at Work Act.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance in electrical services.
  • Ability to independently plan, prioritise, and manage workload.
  • Experience in handling high volumes of reactive maintenance requests.
  • Problem-solving ability with initiative in fault finding and escalation.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Competent written and IT skills for record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with planned preventative maintenance systems.
  • Full, clean UK or EU driving licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems (BS 5839).
  • Experience working as LV/HV Authorised Person.
  • Competence in confined space entry with escape breathing apparatus.
  • Safe use of lifting platforms, tower scaffolding, and awareness of asbestos safety.
  • Understanding of mechanical building systems
