Managing Quantity Surveyor


Company: This company are a London based main contractor who have been established for over 20 years and are split into a number of different divisions that each have their own specialism. They are a cash rich and progressive company who have built up a very good reputation with over 70% of their work being repeat business. Their accounts close just after Easter and they are projected to finish on circa. £120m in turnover and are forecasting circa. £150m next year. Over the years they have grown at a steady and calculated pace, and after next year are looking to go through a period of consolidation where they focus on developing and upskilling their staff, building upon already strong client relationships and internally develop their business. Division: One of their key divisions solely focuses on refurbishments, restorations and listed building heritage projects in central London. They undertake a diverse range of work, typically between £2m - £14m in contract value, from complex structural alterations, cut and care and façade retentions, to sympathetic restorations, refurbishments and high quality fit outs across the prime residential, historical, museum, art gallery, education and commercial office sectors. In Autumn last year, the business appointed a new divisional director to oversee the whole Heritage Division. This appointment was seen as a real coupe having spent 9 years in his last senior role. Aside from being a very well connected, intelligent and methodical person. He has a very calm, personable and engaging approach. He has plans to develop the division, but this doesn’t just include an increase in work. He plans to add value and develop the existing business unit, working collaboratively with the current staff and developing the talent at his disposal. Role: Managing Quantity Surveyor/ Commercial Manager Salary: £90,000 - £95,000 Benefits: travel expenses + pension + healthcare The successful candidate will initially be leading the commercial team. This role has initially come around due to the current commercial manager going on maternity leave for the next in the summer with the divisional director looking to appoint someone to have a 4-8 week handover, to aid with their preparation. Responsibilities: * Managing cost control, procurement, and subcontractor relationships. * Preparing and reviewing contracts and tenders. * Ensuring compliance with all commercial processes and procedures. * Providing accurate financial reporting and forecasts. * Supporting the project team in achieving key milestones and objectives. * Leading and mentoring a team of Quantity Surveyors. * Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit level * Ensure accurate cash flow reporting takes place * Carry out cost management including forecasting * Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans and have accountability, along with the project team for the commercial performance and strategy * Putting together bids to win new business * Negotiating and agreeing contracts * Strategically expanding, preserving or improving company procedures, standards or policies * Adhering to regulatory guidelines
