King’s Award for Voluntary Service Policy Advisor


The Honours & Awards Team is a highly collaborative team, working together and sharing workload during peak times to ensure they meet deadlines and quality expectations. The KAVS role will include:

  • Leading the delivery of the annual KAVS round, ensuring all project deadlines are met and continually working to improve existing processes;
  • Supporting external stakeholders on the KAVS nomination process, including almost one hundred of His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants across the UK;
  • Liaising with the Royal Household, No.10, the KAVS Chair and National Assessor Committee Members;
  • Developing Forfeiture and Complaints Policies;
  • Managing supplier contracts to ensure value for money is achieved; and,
  • Drafting submissions and briefings.

Person specification

The ideal candidate will have the following key skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, manage and deliver competing priorities to a high standard as part of a team and individually;
  • The ability to work flexibly and overcome challenges, develop processes and manage through change;
  • Strong stakeholder management experience and the ability to build trusted relationships within DCMS, across government, and with external stakeholders;
  • Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to liaise with Communications and Digicomms colleagues; and,
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to pull together different sources to draw conclusions at pace and implement changes.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of managing external suppliers and/or maintaining a budget
  • Familiarity with online systems
  • Experience of creating and giving a presentation

We are running an information session where prospective applicants can find out more about the role. This will be hosted by Paul Harron, Head of Honours and Awards, and will take place on:

  • 7th May 10:30-11:30

The session will be an opportunity to hear more about the role, the team and wider directorate and the department. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
