Motivation letter

The cover letter

If you want to apply for an open job, you must always send a resume and a motivation letter. In the cv you can see which training you have enjoyed and what work experience you have while the motivation letter serves as an attractive, interesting and convincing accompanying text at the CV. Because an application letter has to be distinguished from other candidates, this part of the application is very important. However, be aware that you limit yourself to the essence of the motivation letter: answering the question why you aspire to a specific job. Repeating the data in your CV is therefore definitely not recommended.

The reason that it is not wise to repeat CV data in your motivation letter is due to the fact that recruiters and employers often read the CV first to determine if you are fit for a job. If you are fit for a job with a view to your education and work experience, then your application letter will only be read.

Application letter: How do I write the perfect letter?

To ensure that you are invited to a conversation, it is important that your application letter is completely error-free and, moreover, is noticeable. But how do you ensure that you send a perfect application letter so that you get an invitation for a conversation? A good motivation letter meets the following requirements at least:

  1. The letter is clear and answers the question why you are an added value to the company in question.
  2. The letter is addressed to the right person.
  3. The letter is attractive and written according to the rules of a motivation letter.
  4. The letter is short (about 3 paragraphs of 5 sentences per paragraph).
  5. The letter is correct and does not contain spelling mistakes.

The classification of a motivation letter

Although every motivation letter is of course different, the letters always know the same format. By using a fixed format, the reader of the letter can immediately see who is the sender of the letter, when the letter is written, who is the addressee and to which the letter relates. Therefore, never give your letter your own format, but handle the fixed rules for the classification of a motivation letter.

The correct structure of a motivation letter is the following:

  1. The letterhead with sender details.
  2. Details of the address.
  3. The place and date.
  4. Headline 'concerned' with the subject of the letter.
  5. The preamble.
  6. The first paragraph with the reason for the application.
  7. The second paragraph explaining why you apply.
  8. The last paragraph with your qualities. You also mention that you would like to have a conversation.
  9. The closing.
  10. The CV in the attachment.
